Consider going for Thanksgiving in this Garment

Tags :

Thanksgiving Garment

We all know the stories about the First Thanksgiving and the Pilgrims and we all recognize the attire worn by those early settlers like the Pilgrims. Today we’ll look at just how far fashion has come and been thankful no one (hopefully) shows up to Thanksgiving dinner dressed like this guy (see Left).

Traditional Thanksgiving Garment

Traditional Thanksgiving Garment

To start with, a Pilgrim man often wore a felt hat (with a buckle in some interpretations). The next easily noticeable accouterment is the Ruff. It looks much like the variations of ruffles and large white collars worn throughout history, mostly in paintings of royalty. This would get covered I gravy so fast, it wouldn’t be funny (ok, it would be) if worn today.

Slightly less awkward and odd is the doublet cuffs. This is a fairly typical jacket of the time (also for quite some time before and after the Pilgrims) and it could be compared to a waistcoat or suit jacket. Some pilgrims also wore a vest and a long sleeved shirt if not the doublet.

Further down the body, we find the Breeches, garters, stocking, and shoes . These breeches look silly by today’s standards but they obviously looked good to the Pilgrim women. While there are few comparisons between this style of pants and today’s modern suit pants, at least the color of the pants and jackets matched (with the shoes , too!), making the men look well put together. Today, men wear solid color jackets, shoes, and pants to the actual ankle, leaving the stockings to the women.

Suit and Tuxedo history…

While the history of the suit and tuxedo is long and convoluted, we can still see some similarities to the traditional pilgrim garb. Wearing a suit to Thanksgiving dinner will make you look and feel good, but it can also be a history lesson. Impress the friends and family (and in-laws) by comparing your suit pieces to the good ol’ fashioned Pilgrim attire.

Consider going in the traditional Native American Thanksgiving Suit this year

If you don’t want to go the suit route (because gravy on your best suit, tie, or shirt is a definite no-go) then consider dressing closer to a traditional Native American the Pilgrims may have contacted (see Right). Replace the deerskin mantle with a suede shirt or jacket and the deerskin leggings with jeans or corduroy. Also, tie a piece of twine around your leg for the legging tie. You can also pick up a pair of moccasins at any number of shoe stores. As with a shell or leather necklace. Don’t forget a nice turkey feather accessory to keep it extra festive! If you must have some sort of fur robe for maximum authenticity, shop around for just any faux fur scraps. As for the knife, make it functional and bring your own turkey carving knife—festive and functional!

We’ve got you covered

No matter what you choose, keep Rose Tuxedo in mind for all of your holiday attire needs. There isn’t a man alive who doesn’t look better in a high quality, well-fitting suit.

4 Ways to Wear a Suit to Thanksgiving this Year

Tags :

Wearing a suit to any family or formal gathering is a great idea. It’s better to be overdressed than under-dressed. If you have no clue what to wear to your own Thanksgiving family dinner or to the home of your spouse, girlfriend, or best friend you can never go wrong with a suit. If you know a suit will come across as snooty or obnoxious you could always dress it down.

Or ignore the haters and wear it anyway because you look amazing in that suit, sir. Much like our post in September about the different ways to utilize a three-piece suit, you don’t always have to wear the full classic suit. You can use the pieces to your advantage and look your best and use the same suit for several Thanksgiving Weekend events.

Here are some ways to wear your best suit to any Thanksgiving event this November.

1. Full suit

Reserve this for impressing in-laws, bosses, co-workers, or strangers. Gravy is messy and you may spill something. If you wear a brown suit, gravy may not be a problem. Stick to earth tones with some accents matching the color-changing leaves. Maybe avoid the three-piece suit here and stick to slacks and jacket.

2. Slacks and Vest

This look is always flattering and looks much more relaxed than a three-piece suit. It could be paired with a long tie or bowtie in colors matching the food or leaves of fall. Roll up your shirt sleeves and add some patterned socks with your loafers. Keep is casual but clean. Gravy-color clothes will only take you so far.

3. Slacks and Sweater

This doesn’t technically require owning or renting a suit, but the right slacks are important. Pair a nice pair of slacks, a collared shirt, and a festive vest to look casual but put together. Keep the turkey turtleneck at home and stick to a sweater vest or V-neck sweater with an autumn color pallet. Reserve the tacky sweater for sitting at home eating your leftovers with your wife or girlfriend.

Don’t wear this. Ever.

4. Jeans and Vest or Jacket

For those family members and friends you’re more comfortable with, pair a nice suit jacket or vest with a clean, straight leg dark wash jean—no holes. You can wear this with a festive-colored dress shirt (with or without a tie) with the suit jacket or a plaid button-down with the suit vest. The combinations are endless. Just keep it neat and leave the elastic waistbands at home. No one needs to see that.

5. Utilize your boring business brown suit

Browns work great for Thanksgiving. Tweed, wool, or blends will look great. Pair it with a pop of color to grab some attention. If you arrive at a holiday party and you’re overdressed, you can always remove a layer and roll up your sleeves or remove your tie.

If you’re underdressed, put the jacket back on and straighten your tie. But if you are unsure of what attire the party will require, Put on a two-piece suit with a sweater and you should realize quickly what layers to shed. Or, simply ask. It never hurts.

4 Occasions When You Want to Rent a Tux

Tags :

Who doesn’t want to look good? Which person doesn’t want to give a good first impression? Who doesn’t want to impress his date? The questions could go on and on. And yes, a tux or suit can transform any man to look his best.

A tuxedo or suit is always in fashion. They’ve been around for many years and they don’t seem to be making an exit. Every decade they undergo changes, upgrades or throwbacks but they remain the same: Suits and tuxedos.

Tux Rental

Different types and quality of tuxedos and suits exists out there. As a result, they come with different price tags. Some are affordable, others are just oh-my-God expensive. Makes you wonder if they were crafted by the hands of angels. But the funny thing is just anyone can wear those tuxes. Rose tuxedos are one of those making that possible. However, we have been doing that for a long time and also do it best, with extra spices here and there to make any one look all-round dapper.

Good looking tux

Good looking tux

We understand your need to look outstanding like the Front line commando of the army of dapper men in suits. So we do our best to make a trainload of choices of tuxes and suits available to you. As opposed to buying them, we’ve put together a small but inexhaustible list of reasons why renting a tuxedo or suit is the way to go.

1. Job interviews

Rent a suit if you have an interview for a company that requires formal attire but you don’t want to spend the money for a whole suit until you have that cushy job or you just really want to impress them with how amazing you look in a suit (and be honest, who doesn’t look and feel amazing in a tuxedo or nice suit?).

2. Office parties

We all know what happens at the work Christmas party stays at the work Christmas party.  That is until the morning and you have to get your suit cleaned. Rent an extra snazzy suit or tux to impress your boss and by renting you won’t have to find closet space for it between big shindigs.

3. Hot date at a 5 star restaurant

If you are trying to impress a classy lady by taking her out to eat at the swankiest place in town, you have to dress the part. At Rose Tuxedo, we have accessories to match nearly any color, so you can match her dress, your car, or the color of the napkins in the restaurant.

4. Class reunions

No matter what clique or niche you fit into during school, a tuxedo rental from us will make you look like a million bucks! Make your ex-girlfriends regret leaving you for the football quarterback by looking like you stepped out of a James Bond movie.

Any time you just want to look fancy!

Who says you need a special event to look nice? No one looks awful in a suit or tuxedo. Sure, it might be weird if you rent a tux just for laughs, but it’s none of our business why you rent from us. If you want some professional head shots taken while you try out your skills in acting, who knows? Our tuxes might make you the next NPH.

By no means is this a comprehensive list of reasons to own, rent, or enjoy a suit. We stand by our products and wish you the best in your endeavors, because we’ll do our part by making you look the best you will ever look. How about a Western Tux for a Rustic Wedding in Arizona? Yep, we got one.

Make Room for Suits and Tuxedos in Your Wardrobe

Tags :

Let’s get to fixing that wardrobe and messy closet, fellas! This week we’ll talk about items you need to remove from your life and why you should replace some of those items with suits, suit pieces, slacks, and more! Don’t forget that Rose Tuxedo offers options to purchase suits, shirts, and more!

The One Year Rule

All over the internet, you can find people coming up with ways to tell if you’ve worn an item for a year, or telling you to get rid of anything you haven’t worn in a year or more. This is a great way to clear out space in your closet. If you can’t remember the last time you wore an item—get rid of it. This goes for things that don’t fit, are out of style, or you shouldn’t have bought in the first place!

Take everything out

Spread as many of your pieces of clothing out as possible. Seeing how much you have can help you realize what you do and don’t need. Seeing it in a drawer or hanging in your closet doesn’t really make you realize HOW MUCH you have.

Multiples

If you have 3 of a nearly identical shirt (and it’s not a staple like white or solid colors) maybe it’s time to remove some. You don’t need 3 of the same sweater, or 6 pairs of sweatpants, or 3 t-shirts with lame jokes on them.

Nostalgia

If you’ve kept a shirt, jacket, or some other item of clothing for sentimental value, maybe it’s time to take it out of the closet. If it’s that important to you, you can put it in a shadow box or find a more useful method of storing it (primarily if you can’t or don’t wear it anymore).

When to Donate

If you have an item of clothing that you don’t wear anymore but it’s still in good shape maybe you can donate it to a thrift store or to a friend or family member who’d wear it.

When to Toss

Items with major stains, holes, or structural damage do not need to be donated. Consider cutting them up for scraps and rags or tossing it in the trash (or to a recycling center if you can find one that deals with clothes and fabrics).

Get creative

If you have a shirt you can’t wear or jeans that aren’t appropriate for daily wear you can get creative. Make a shirt into a pillow or turn some old jeans into a purse or bag (these ideas may require the help from someone who knows how to sew, but it would make great gifts or home-décor).

Some Suits never go out of style

Suits look great on nearly all men! You also can’t go wrong with having a couple 3-piece suits you can piece out and use creatively. Owning a couple different suits, ties, dress shirts, jackets, and slacks means you’re ready for just about anything. We’re not saying to get rid of your jeans, but help make your wardrobe more mature by replacing some of those t-shirts with collared shirts and those tattered jeans with slacks!

Stay organized

The internet is crawling with storage ideas from how to use shoe trees to hanger hacks to storage hacks. Don’t be afraid to experiment with storage ideas.

Be you

If you love an item in your wardrobe, don’t listen to anything anyone says. If you wear it, keep it. Just remember that there is always a better option. But never stop being you!

How to get the Groom Excited about Wedding Planning

Tags :

It is common to find the bride taking over the entire wedding preparation. The groom just thinks about his tuxedo and his best man in most cases. Even if this is the common occurrence in wedding planning, it doesn’t always mean that the groom is uninterested. There are some areas of the wedding in which he is secretly excited about. By knowing what these areas are, brides can have their fiance join in on the wedding planning.

Light grey tuxedo

The groom is keen about the preparations and looks forward to the following:

Cake

While he may not express the same concern on your decision between buttercream vs. fondant, it doesn’t mean that he isn’t interested in the cake. As a matter of fact, he will enjoy the cake testing part of the wedding planning as he will get to try out the cake too. Once he has tried the options, he will be able to give his consent on which one tasted better for him.

Getaway Car

Considering that most guys are into cars, the decision of picking out a bridal car will be something that he would want to be involved in. He will have an idea of which car he would like to use for your wedding day so make sure you listen to his opinion.

Music

If your fiancé loves music, he will be interested in sharing his playlist selection. Make sure you allow him to choose the songs that he would like to be played during the reception. This way, he can dance along to the song that he likes listening to best.

Honeymoon

Another area of your wedding planning that your fiancé can help out with is the honeymoon. Without you knowing it, he may already be thinking of ways he can surprise you during your out of town trip. This is why you should let him be involved in the planning of your honeymoon.

Groom’s Tuxedo

Just like you, your groom will want to look his best during your wedding day. Oh well, who doesn’t? This is why he will take into consideration the look of his tuxedo and how well it will fit him. After all, it’s his wedding day too!

If you’re on the lookout for a tuxedo rental for your fiancé, feel free to visit our collection on options he can choose from! We can help him dress up nicely for the most important events in his life.
