Who is Jim’s Formal Wear? Well, for starters they just celebrated over 50 years in the Men’s formal wear business. Their website Jim’s Formal Wear says- 1922 Starting the family business. Leo Davis founded the Davis Family Clothing in Trenton, Illinois, a small city outside of St. Louis. Providing quality clothing and accessories for men and boys, Davis Family Clothing quickly became a modest success. After Leo’s death, his son Jim takes over the store, renaming it Jim’s Men’s and Boys’ Shop.  Jim, working with his brother, Allen, focus on providing their community with quality menswear products and excellent service at a fair price. 1964 Jim’s Formal Wear Launches Responding to his customers’ needs for quality formal wear rentals, Jim opened “Jim’s Formal Wear”. He purchased 200 black coats, 200 white coats, 600 formal shirts and a 900 square foot house near the men’s store in downtown Trenton as a tuxedo distribution center. He and his wife, Betty, took orders on a pad by the house’s kitchen phone. Doing business in a small town means that you really can’t afford to lose one customer and they spent all their effort providing exceptional service and expanding their customer base.  1964-1970’s: A family Affair Jim and his family members take orders, hem sleeves and pants, and assemble tuxedo orders. They even deliver the orders from the back of the family station wagon! Their example established the company’s culture of hard work and dedication to the customer.

1970’S-1980’S: RAPID GROWTH AND REGIONAL EXPANSION

Rapid growth occurs, due to the quality of Jim’s inventory and the impressive customer service demonstrated by the Davis family and the JFW employees. During this time, JFW expands to seven regional service centers in six states.

1984-2013: TAKING JFW NATIONWIDE

Jim’s youngest son Gary and his wife June purchase Jim’s Formal Wear. Under their guidance, they grew the business to over seven times its size by making acquisitions, improving infrastructure, and investing in the latest technologies. So all of the above is taken from the Jim’s Formal Wear site. But what does this mean to you the consumer and all the Tuxedo Specialist around the States? It means your getting a great Men’s formal Wear product and service, the best out there.  So let me explain a little and help share what lots of Men’s formal Wear Specialist go through. Fashion Ideas for your Christmas Party this year

Tags :

If you’re going to a Christmas party this year, chances are someone is going to take pictures (posed or candid) so make sure you look great in any and all photos at the festive parties this year by following our advice!

Fashion Ideas for your Christmas Party this year

If your party does not warrant a full suit, try a more casual look with jeans and a suit jacket, or jeans and a suit vest. Or, stick with nice slacks and a tie. You can piece out a suit (rental or purchased) to achieve many levels of great fashion with ease. Today we’ll talk about some general tips to keep you looking sharp in all photos this holiday season.

Get a fresh haircut

Chances are, you’ll be seeing some friends and family you don’t see very often. People may be coming in from out of town to see you and other loved ones, so spruce up a little, get those sideburns trimmed, and even out the back a little. Even a haircut at a cheap or bargain barber shop can help you look like a million bucks.

Keep shirts and pants wrinkle free

Nothing screams “I don’t care,” more than a wrinkled tie or suit pants with un-needed creases. If you fold your dress shirts and pants, iron those fold creases out before you wear them! Have them dry-cleaned if you must (especially if you lack an iron or the ability to iron clothing).

Try one piece of festive clothing per outfit

Ugly Christmas sweater parties are all the rage right now, but if you’re not going to one of those, do not overdo it on the holiday-themed items. Stick to a tie, socks, or vest, not all three. Speaking of the “ugly Christmas sweater” look, please avoid the Ugly Christmas Sweater Suit that is going viral online right now. Just, don’t. Unless it’s an aforementioned themed party. Then go ahead and do it! Ask us and maybe we can bring one in for the rental.

Do not overdress too much, and do not under dress

It’s ok if you spruce your outfit up a bit and go a bit above the dress code, but if it’s a casual party it is best to avoid a full tuxedo. If it’s a party that requests formal attire (like business-related events) then it might not be wise to show up in jeans and a sports coat. Read our previous blog about dressing for the event here.

Relax! It’s Christmas, just don’t fall asleep with your mouth open with a gravy stain on your shirt or tie and the photos will probably end up fine. Do something foolish after drinking too much eggnog and you might end up with a new meme via Facebook. Be comfortable, be fashionable, and smile; make these moments with your family count and all of the photos will be cherished.

For taking a Christmas Card photo, why not go a little extra fancy and make you and your family look the best they can with a suit rental (or a pieced out suit as previously mentioned) and a little extra care taken in the appearance of all of those in the photo. Make other families jealous of how perfect you and your loved ones look on the Christmas card!

Tips for Wearing a tuxedo

Tips for Wearing a Tuxedo

Most men like to shy away from formal events but sometimes there is no way to avoid the occasion. Tradition called for a black tuxedo with all the trimmings. However, tradition may be expanding to include the color blue.
Now, I think you may be picturing the bight blue tuxedo rental jacket of old. Today’s blue tuxedo rentals include shades of navy and midnight blues that are elegant and more subtle. If you want to catch everyone’s eye at the next black tie event, choose a royal blue jacket with black tuxedo pants. This combo is a little less subtle but still comes across as elegant.

Is Black and Blue The New You in Formal Wear?

Men appreciate guidelines to help them determine what to wear at a formal event. These guidelines may help ease the anxiety and resistance men have to attend such events.

* Black Tie and White Tie events require two different styles of dress. White tie is the more formal of the events. The tux jacket has tails, black with a white shirt is the color scheme for the dress code. Black tie is a semi-formal dress code, the back of the jacket is square cut and color variations are allowed including blue and black combinations.  More tips for wearing a tuxedo.

* Tuxedos are evening wear. The rule of thumb is to dress for the time the event ends. If the event starts before sundown and ends after dark, wearing a tuxedo is entirely appropriate, However, if the event starts in daylight and ends in daylight, then the tux is inappropriate to wear. Exceptions are allowed if this type of wear is requested on the invitation to the event.

my man!!

* The tuxedo can be thought of as a type of uniform that allows slight variations. The jacket can be square cut hem or have a tail. The collars can have a shawl or more formal peaked lapel. Most jackets will have a single button closure or are double breasted. The facing can be satin or for a more subtle matte look, choose a grosgrain. Make your tie choice match your lapel. Hint: shiny ties goes with shiny lapels.

* Details count! The buttons should all match and match the fabric color. They should either be black (or blue) or be covered with matching tux fabric. There should be four buttons on each sleeve. The jacket should either be without a back vent or have two side vents. A single vent jacket is a no-no.

* The pants should be of the same type fabric as the jacket even if a different color. They should high waisted and not have belt loops. These pants are to be worn with suspenders/braces. They should have a ribbon (called a braid) down the side outer seam. Choose a plain front or a pleated for a more elegant appearance. Tux pants are not cuffed.

*Black shoes are acceptable footwear in either loafer or oxford style, bow or laced.

If a blue tuxedo is not an item you want to own, try our tuxedo rental for your next semi-formal occasion.

Tuxedo rentals from Catalogs: Things you should know

Tags :

So it’s time to rent a tuxedo or suit for a wedding, prom or some special event, you’ve done your research online or you know a local tuxedo rental shop you’re going to check out.

When you get there you see some very nice designer tuxedos and suits on display but you don’t see the one you might be looking for.

paulmurrell

You ask the tuxedo specialist your working with if they have any more tuxedos to choose from or know of the one you want. Here comes the Tuxedo Catalog with all the designer names, Ike Evening by Ike Behar, Jean Yves tuxedos, Ralph Lauren tux, Michael Kors Men’s Formal Wear for rental, Joseph Abboud black tuxedo, After Six, Perry Ellis suits and Calvin Klein tuxedos.

Why do some tuxedo and bridal shops use Tuxedo Catalogs?

Because it’s very hard to carry all of the latest styles of designer tuxedos and suits rentals in stock.

Most Tux specialists attend the IFA show (International Formal Wear Association) or meet with Formal Wear Sales person who comes through town and shows you all the latest tuxedos to choose from and purchase for the following year.

This is when it gets hard for the Tuxedo shop owner, what styles and colors should they buy, what’s going to be popular, and what will customers be coming in and asking for. It’s never easy and unfortunately, we can’t buy everything. But the Tuxedo wholesaler buys almost every new style that comes out because they want to serve every little Tuxedo operator across the USA.

One and two store tuxedo shops use the Formal Wear wholesalers Catalog to offer their customers a wide range of Tuxedos and suits to choose from that they didn’t buy, but all this service comes with a nice price tag.

So you like a designer tuxedo rental from a Catalog…

Jim’s Formal Wear or Paul Morrell catalog tuxedo rentals may have what you’re looking for, now what? The Tuxedo specialist will quote you a rental price from the catalog which is usually higher than any tuxedo or suit rental that they carry in stock, why? Because if you own something you can rent it or sell it much cheaper than if you have to pay a middleman (Tuxedo Wholesaler) for their product.jimsformalwear

A typical fee for the Tuxedo specialist to sub-rent a tuxedo from a catalog is $85 and that usually does not include shoes (shoes weigh the shipping box down a lot, and the price goes up). Paying the sub-rental price and shipping fees the local Tuxedo specialist has to make some money and will charge you a lot more.

Every tuxedo shop varies their catalog tuxedo rental price depending on their overhead and more. I’ve seen some tux shops charge from $125 to $250 for the same tuxedo rental out of the book. These are the same Tux Catalogs that every tux shop account owner gets.

Some of the issues that a customer should be aware of

The big question when ordering a sub-rental tuxedo from a Tux shops catalog is “how soon will the tuxedo arrive before the day of use?”.

The answer is usually 2 days before the event, one day before is also very common. And the reason is: the Wholesaler does not ship out the suit rental or tux until the Monday before the weekend because they were possibly suing it the weekend before yours (most tux rental outfits are worn on the weekends) so even though you may order it one month before it still won’t arrive until 2 days before you need it, scary right?

Yes. Why?

What if you were not measured correctly and something doesn’t fit?

Or what if the shipping box doesn’t arrive or gets lost? These are not fun things to think about before a big formal event.

formal-knight-tuxedos-logo

Formal Knight is a men’s formal wear wholesaler and they ship from California and that helps us at Rose Tuxedo get faster service in AZ. Rose Tuxedo has been in the men’s formal wear business since 1980 and is also a Premier account with all it’s Tux and suit Wholesale companies so we get special tux pricing and VIP shipping, that helps our customers get their outfits faster and we can pass the rental savings on to you.

In my humbler opinion after 30 years in the Men’s formal Wear industry…

Always try to find something a local Tuxedo shop has in stock. Most owners have bought some of the latest designer tuxedos and suit rentals available and you can usually get a better tuxedo rental price when it’s a suit or tux they own and carry in stock, plus same day rentals and easy tuxedo measurement corrections. But if you don’t see what you’re looking for then go for the catalog tuxedo rental and most of the time everything usually works out fine.menswearhouse4

For those who don’t know Men’s Wearhouse doesn’t own any of their Tuxedo or Suit rentals in stock, you heard that right. They have New tuxedo and suits you can buy on the racks but no rentals in the back room or racks, just ask them.

Men’s Wear house gets all their tuxedo and suits rentals from their Tuxedo plant out of state. They have one or two big Men’s Wearhouse big plant’s that puts all the tux and suit rentals together and then ship them to their Men’s Wearhouse location’s across the United States, this is scarier than getting a tuxedo rental from a catalog.

One of the other nice benefits of renting tux’s local

The money you spend in State stays in the economy, and most of the time you can pick up your tux outfit a day early if you ask or return it a day late because it doesn’t need to be shipped back to anyone.

I hope this helps you in your men’s formal wear renting process and if anything it should give you some idea on how the process is all done, and ease your mind on dressing up on some of the most important day and times of your life.

Happy Holidays to all and Rose Tuxedo has 3 tuxedo shops in Arizona ready to help you for any Men’s formal wear need. You can also live chat me 7 days a week and ask a question or get a tuxedo rental quote. www.rosetuxedoaz.com tuxedo rentals
