Tips for Wearing a tuxedo

Tips for Wearing a Tuxedo

Most men like to shy away from formal events but sometimes there is no way to avoid the occasion. Tradition called for a black tuxedo with all the trimmings. However, tradition may be expanding to include the color blue.
Now, I think you may be picturing the bight blue tuxedo rental jacket of old. Today’s blue tuxedo rentals include shades of navy and midnight blues that are elegant and more subtle. If you want to catch everyone’s eye at the next black tie event, choose a royal blue jacket with black tuxedo pants. This combo is a little less subtle but still comes across as elegant.

Is Black and Blue The New You in Formal Wear?

Men appreciate guidelines to help them determine what to wear at a formal event. These guidelines may help ease the anxiety and resistance men have to attend such events.

* Black Tie and White Tie events require two different styles of dress. White tie is the more formal of the events. The tux jacket has tails, black with a white shirt is the color scheme for the dress code. Black tie is a semi-formal dress code, the back of the jacket is square cut and color variations are allowed including blue and black combinations.  More tips for wearing a tuxedo.

* Tuxedos are evening wear. The rule of thumb is to dress for the time the event ends. If the event starts before sundown and ends after dark, wearing a tuxedo is entirely appropriate, However, if the event starts in daylight and ends in daylight, then the tux is inappropriate to wear. Exceptions are allowed if this type of wear is requested on the invitation to the event.

* The tuxedo can be thought of as a type of uniform that allows slight variations. The jacket can be square cut hem or have a tail. The collars can have a shawl or more formal peaked lapel. Most jackets will have a single button closure or are double breasted. The facing can be satin or for a more subtle matte look, choose a grosgrain. Make your tie choice match your lapel. Hint: shiny ties goes with shiny lapels.

* Details count! The buttons should all match and match the fabric color. They should either be black (or blue) or be covered with matching tux fabric. There should be four buttons on each sleeve. The jacket should either be without a back vent or have two side vents. A single vent jacket is a no-no.

* The pants should be of the same type fabric as the jacket even if a different color. They should high waisted and not have belt loops. These pants are to be worn with suspenders/braces. They should have a ribbon (called a braid) down the side outer seam. Choose a plain front or a pleated for a more elegant appearance. Tux pants are not cuffed.

*Black shoes are acceptable footwear in either loafer or oxford style, bow or laced.

If a blue tuxedo is not an item you want to own, try our tuxedo rental for your next semi-formal occasion.

Make no mistake. We aren’t talking about pairing a good looking pair of glossy shoes with Grandpa’s tired old wedding tux. Let that one stay hidden away in the attic. There are many more choices for men now than the classic black and white. Sleek grey suits with vests that match your girl’s outfit are popular choices right now. Navy sport coats paired with matching pants and a colorful tie make a bold statement. Of course, there is nothing wrong with opting for the timeless black and white tuxedo. Patent leather shoes go with all of these choices and more.

Blue Tuxedos and Gray Tuxedos Are Rocking the Event Circuit!

So you want to wear Navy Blue Tuxedos? Whether you are going to Prom. a wedding, a quinceanera or a fabulous New Years Party there are a number of styles and colors that are really standing out this year. Business Insider reported that over half of Hollywood’s hottest men sported a midnight blue tuxedo at The Golden Globes this year. Men seem to be leaning toward the trend of more color, but muted colors, such as grays and dark reds.

Black tuxedos have become passé and men are wanting to stand out in a canvas of black here, black there, black tuxedos everywhere. The navy blue tuxedo is a compelling choice in tuxedo color because it gives a gentleman a chance to be unique while still being suitable for any semi-formal or formal event requirements.

The Slate blue tuxedo was at its highest popularity in the 1930’s. It took a decline toward the 1940’s, however, in 2016 the navy blue tuxedo rebounded as a fashion choice in tuxedos. Among the most popular tuxedo trends is the navy blue ‘Hudson’ tuxedo that has a beautiful black satin lapel and black satin besom pockets. It has a slim fit design that is sleek and elegant.

You would think that the powder blue tuxedo would have seen its demise in the late 60’s and early 70’s with the awful ruffled shirts. Not so, say fashionistas. The powder blue tuxedo is coming back with a vengeance. When you take a slim fit powder blue tuxedo with a black lapel and pair it with black slacks, black bow tie, and black cummerbund you have a timeless look that is definitely unique and will make you fashionable. I personally went to Prom in 1982 and the hottest tuxedo color then was Navy Blue. My family back in Michigan who own President Tuxedo mailed me out to Phoenix AZ a Navy blue tuxedo to wear to my prom. My late Uncle was the best. I took it to have it pressed after I took it out of the box and I was a sharp looking prom goer. Navy Tuxedo

In a field of black, a gray tuxedo is definitely a hot tuxedo! A recent Tuxedo blog called gray tuxedos the “Icing on the Cake”. You want a look that is elegant and tasteful, yet catches the eye. Gray is just the trick. It is decadent without being ostentatious. There are so many great shades of gray, from a graphite gray to a light gray, a medium gray with a print and a steel gray, there are wide choices of gray in any hue to fit your skin tone. Maybe this is why Gray Tuxedos have made such a big hit the last year or so, can you believe it was brown Tuxedos before this? What tuxedo color will be the next more popular? navy blue tuxedos

For men with blonde hair and a light skin tone, a dark gray tuxedo is just the trick to making the skin tone and blonde hair pop. Dark gray has the versatility to go with any skin tone and men with brown hair and medium tones look sexy in a dark gray tux. For men with darker olive or brown skin tones and black hair, a light gray suit is so elegant and dashing. gray tuxedos

Whether you choose to go with a navy blue tuxedo or a gray tuxedo, your date will be so proud to be on the arm of a gentleman with such discerning taste. You and your date will sweep the room and be a cut above the rest. Not only will you stand above the crowd, but your date will as well. And for everyone else not interested in wearing a Navy Blue or Gray, I don’t blame you and you can never go wrong with a black classic tuxedo, even your pictures will never look dated.
